Happy Deepavali !
Well this happened last week but i was just too busy to post it up until today. Well as all of you might already know, last week was Deepavali and i came up with a suprise dinner to celebrate it.
Here is how it all began :
The day before Deepavali i went to a movie with Thiru and we talked about Deepavali. He told me that his parents called him and wished him Happy Deepavali and he sounded like he misses home a lot. I understood that feeling all too well and being a great friend that i am (i can see all of you nodding in unison), i came up with a plan to suprise him with some traditional (ahahahhaha, not really. More on that later) Indian food. So saturday morning, i went to the groceries with some Malaysian friends (thanks for the ride Ngai Fong) and bought the needed ingredients. I came up with the dinner menu and it looked like this :
Tandoori chicken
Chick Peas Dhal
Garlic Naan
Lassi for drinks
I know, i know, trying to make naan was really ambitious for a amateur/novice cook but i seriously thought no harm could come out of it. Well so....i made naan. And it did not turn out to be naan. More like erm...... biscuits. It was so funny as we did not have any of the tools at all. I mean we were rolling out the dough with a bottle. Anyways, i came up with a plan to suprise Thiru and it went something like this.
~ Patty calls Thiru and tells him there is a party at her house thus assuring that Thiru no longer have plans for the night. Then she tells him that she will be picking us (me and him) up from his house around dinner time. Then we show up at his house with food and SUPRISE !!!
So, all the cooking was done at Patty's place and at around 8.45 (Patty promised Thiru to be at his place at 7.30 to "pick him up" but the cooking took longer than usual. And we did not even finish cooking :). Had to bring semi-cooked food to his house to finish cooking), we showed up at his place with the treats !!!!

Don't you just looooove our presentation with the lights and all. I, me, smart me, came up with it

He was really suprised and happy and i am glad it all worked out good. He did not expect it at all (Although by the fifth time he called Patty, he sounded pretty confused about the whole deal). Anyways, the food. It was good but not great. The naan was biscuity and the lassi was not authentic. You see, it was not mango lassi. It was peach. Yeah, very unauthentic but there were no ripe indian mangoes hanging around here in Bozoland. Just peaches. And unripe ones at that. Hmmmphhhhhh

The dhal was great and the chicken was "nice". Definitely not spicy enough for me. Needed more spiciness and also more richness to it. But you know me, i can find something to complain/whine about even though it is near perfection. My friends sure seemed to have enjoyed the meal, so i guess it was all good??
But, back to this week. No more cooking/partying/life until the end of this semester from this week onwards. I will have minimum one test a week, every week, leading up to finals.
Test every week + Work + No play = Homesickness to the Mega-th degree + No life
Anyways, have a great day ahead of you
Sorry for the fuziness. My camera decided to not work that night so all the pictures taken have that hazy look. Kinda like what Malaysia looks like now ;)
